Hanover, May 2005 – KEYMILE a leading manufacturer and provider of Next-Generation-Access systems with integrated central network management, is modernising the Taiwan National Police Authority's (NPA) communications and information network using the Multi-Service Access Platform UMUX.
The NPA was looking to optimise the last mile in the police's own infrastructure and opted for KEYMILE based solutions. The objective was symmetrical data transmission and to take full advantage of the maximum bandwidth in the NPA's copper network. With its Multi-Service Access platform UMUX, KEYMILE will in future be able to offer reliable voice and data services to the Taiwanese security authorities.
As of immediate effect, 72 more NPA bases will be supplied with 91 UMUX 1500 platforms. The ATM components provide a set of interfaces that support ADSL, HDSL and SHDSL. The commercial benefit for the Taiwan National Police Authority is in savings in investments and operating costs. Because the UMUX platform can deal with a variety of applications, functions and services in one system, simplifying both the configuration and implementation. The next step planned is, for example, to expand the Taiwan National Police's ATM DSLAM topology and to introduce voice over ATM.
UMUX forges the first link
The UMUX platform, with its large variety of interfaces and functions, can support existing and future voice and data services for public and private network operators. UMUX can offer essential modules for migration to the next generation network with a cost-effective platform not requiring new investments after just a short space of time. UMUX can combine the provision of carrier-grade multi-service via copper and glass fibre in one single NGN-compatible network element. The services then available encompass conventional telephony, broadband internet access and leased lines to new services such as Ethernet lines and Voice over IP. The integrated SDH, Gigabit Ethernet and ATM functions for connection to the backbone network make UMUX an integral part of a communications network. As a result, the UMUX platform can be configured for operation in every network topology and every service – and provides the user with the advantage of a flexible system design.
When implementing the solution locally, KEYMILE is supported by its partner COMAX. "Co-operation with KEYMILE is exactly as we envisaged. Even in difficult phases of the project, KEYMILE was totally reliable. The extraordinary level of support provided should be mentioned in particular. KEYMILES customer service doesn't just offer practical training courses but support from the hotline, 365 days a year, round the clock", said Richard P.I. Huang from Comax.
"Network operators today are presented with the challenge of developing an ever-increasing integrated range of services at high quality and at the same time at low prices" explains Martin Ueltschi, sales director of the market unit APAC from KEYMILE. "For these services and the required network migration we provide extremely flexible systems solutions with which network operators can provide and integrate current and future services without any problems".
